I want to thank you in advance for taking the time to read a little about me as a helping professional. My diverse background and extensive experience has been very beneficial for the clients that I serve.

Educational Background
I returned to school in 2001 and I received my undergraduate degree in 2002 from Texas Women's University and my graduate degree in social work in 2004 from the University of Texas at Arlington. I have continued my life long commitment to continued education by obtaining several certifications that have assist with providing premium care to my clients. These certifications include sexuality education and therapy, substance abuse professional, and forensic social work.
Areas of Practice
The majority of my career has been in acute psychiatric hospitals and intensive outpatient settings. Additionally, I have worked in substance use/chemical dependency residential programs. My area of expertise is in addictions, that includes substance use, sexual compulsive/problematic behaviors, and other intimacy disorders. I have worked with adolescents and adults who have depression, bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders, thought process disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorders.
As a result of working in the acute facility-based setting, I have honed my skills with crisis stabilization, assessment, and treatment goal setting. This is very beneficial within private practice because it is easy to miss key co-occurring disorders such as ADHD, depression, anxiety, personality traits, etc. I am consistent with evaluating safety and attuned to mood and behavioral changes. Additionally, due to working within the community, I have worked with many clients at different socioeconomic statuses, ethnic groups, religious affiliations, family structures, relationship structures, and mental/intellectual capacity.
Diversity and Inclusiveness
I decided to start my private practice in April 2014. As a result of working with diverse populations within facility based services, my practice welcomes, includes, and affirms creative family and relationship structures (consensual non-monogamous, polyamorous, and open relationships), couples (married, partnerships, and all unions), all lifestyle orientations, interracial couples, multi-cultural relationships/families. I provide therapeutic support, care, and intervention with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender variant/non-binary, queer, and same gender loving communities. With the transgender community, I uphold and I have been trained to follow the WPATH Standards of Care with the transgender community. I am listed with the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom as a Kink Aware Professional. I am a sex positive practitioner and I provide and hold safe space for clients to explore, experience, and establish confidence and integrity with their choices.
Certifications and Licensure
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. These are both licenses that enable me to practice independently within the state of Texas. I have a certification as a sex addiction therapist. This certification is an indication that I have knowledge and experience with assessment for obsessive/compulsive/problematic sexual behavior. Additionally, I am receiving training and consultation to secure my certification as a sex therapist. I have a very broad lens that allows me to have a comprehensive vantage point for my client. I have been certified as a forensic social worker in the area of substance use. I have completed court reports and mitigation reports for clients who are within the legal system. Forensics is a very active aspect of my private practice.
Other professional experiences
My passion is community education. I am an avid self-learner and I advocate for my client to seek knowledge to establish their truth. My office is full of books, articles, and tools for clients to research and learn. On average, I have given 2-3 journals to clients to document and write about their new insights. I had one client tell me,"Ruby, I have five journals, now." I have been published in peer reviewed journals and an encyclopedia. I have been interviewed by two online journals and radio station about race relations. I have presented at several local, state, and national conferences.

I look forward to learning more about you. I am available within an hour after the initial contact.
